Michael Corn, former GMA boss, will join Nexsta's 'NewsNation'

Michael Corn, the former top producer of ABC's "Good Morning America", has joined the "NewsNation" of the Nexstar Media Group as President of News.  This is Nexstar's latest attempt to advance a program initiative that has faced tremendous headwinds.

Corn will oversee NewsNation's breaking news program and new efforts.  The company recently announced that it would start a morning program in addition to the evening hours it is currently entertaining.  NewsNation takes up a good chunk of the schedule at the cable outlet that was once known as WGN America.  Nexstar, one of the largest TV station owners in the United States, is betting that it can run news programming based on the efforts of its local broadcasters and make better profits than hours of syndicated reruns that come with high license fees.

So far the experiment has stalled.  Ratings for NewsNation programs, which are billed as an alternative to prime time efforts by Fox News Channel, CNN, and MSNBC, have been low.  Even when the company hired new anchors and even started an evening interview show led by veteran Ashleigh Banfield.  Meanwhile, some of NewsNation's top editors noted that Bill Shine, a former top Fox News executive, was advising some of the programming effort.
